SALTBURN FOLK FESTIVAL
SINGER/SONGWRITER COMPETITION, 2011
for the Keith Marsden Memorial Trophy.

RULES: There are as few rules as possible, but some are necessary to ensure that things are done as fairly and expeditiously as possible.

  1. The competition will be hosted by Trevor Lister on:
Saturday 13th. August 2011. from 1p.m. to 4p.m. (but may finish earlier as necessary) in the CIU Club Holiday & Convalescent Centre, Marine Parade.

  2. Entrants MUST possess a Saltburn Folk Festival 2011 weekend ticket.

  3. Entries must be left in the "post box" marked "Singer/songwriter" at the reception desk in the Festival Office before 12 noon on the Saturday of the Festival or mailed to arrive on or before the Thursday morning (11th. August 2011) at the address given on the entry form.

  4. Competitors will be responsible for checking that mailed entries have been received.

  5. It is not compulsory for singer/songwriters to be the singer, (or even the lead singer where there is a group), but he/she must appear as part of the group which performs.

  6. Competitors not present when it is their turn to perform will be deemed to have forfeited their chance of competing. Remember that folks sometimes fail to appear and you may be "on" sooner than you think !

  7. There will be a draw for running order and the order will be displayed in the room in which the competition takes place. It is not possible to give times, for the reasons stated above.

  8. Songs will be judged on their merit as songs: the standard of performance will not be taken into account.

  9. Competitors who supply three copies of the words of their song will do themselves a favour, although this is not a compulsory requirement.

  10. Competitors will often be new to performing. It will therefore be necessary to observe the usual courtesies of a singaround, i.e. no moving or talking during a performance. Breaks will be declared as necessary.

The judges will be announced at a later date.

The winner will be given the opportunity to perform his/her song on the Sunday afternoon concert BETWEEN 1:30 AND 7 P.M. in the Spa Hotel and the trophy will be presented at that time together with a cheque for £100 and a cup to be kept by the winner in perpetuity.

The Trophy itself must be returned to the festival office in time for the Competition in 2012.
